The Healthy Deodorant

After my sister Kelly made the switch to an all natural deodorant, I was still not sold on the idea of it… but after doing a little research of my own about the effects of the ingredients in other brand deodorant's I decided to give it a try.

I bought this brand at whole foods and it's like I never made the switch. I was always skeptical that natural deodorant wouldn't do the job and I would stink. But this has held up to the test and I am so happy I decided to switch!

Here are some information I found, about some ingredients that is often found in traditional brand deodorants.

  • Aluminum: Which is a metal used to block sweat from escaping the pores. Aluminum has been linked to breast cancer, prostate cancer and linked to Alzheimer's disease.
  • Parabens: A widely used synthetic preservative that are often found in deodorants is highly absorbing through our skin. Parabens disrupts our delicate hormonal balance which can lead to early puberty in children and an increase risk of hormonal cancers.
Next time your buying deodorant please look for something that is free of these ingredients. They also have an unsented one for men. I am a firm believer in "everything in moderation", but think about it, if you are a deodorant wearer, you use it EVERYDAY, so I definitely encourage you to do some research about the deodorant you use!

  1. For the past year I have been trying to consume products contain fewer chemicals. I've applied this practice to food, makeup and beverages. This post inspired me to head to Whole Foods and check out some natural deodorant options, especially after you promised I wouldn't stink (this was one of my hesitations in switching as well). I couldn't seem to find the deodorant you mentioned, but I did end up purchasing an aluminum free, non-GMO, soy free and vegan option. It's called Nature's Gate (green meadows scent). So far I am loving it. Thanks for the insight and encouragement on making this switch!!!
